About Global Citizen

Since its inception, Global Citizen has leveraged the power of artists, governments, corporations, philanthropists, and civil society to achieve one common goal: ending extreme poverty. Global Citizens have taken over 28.4 million actions since 2009. Today, these actions, in combination with high-level advocacy work, have led to over $35.4 billion being distributed to our partners around the world, impacting 1.09 billion lives in the fight to end extreme poverty.

In 2021, Global Citizen is undertaking a coordinated advocacy campaign around the Recovery Plan for World launched in late February. The campaign will seek to mobilize new resources to address the most urgent needs brought about by COVID-19 and to help the world recover better together.

This plan calls for global support and new commitments to:

  1. End the pandemic- and ensure equitable access to tests, treatment, and vaccines
  2. Stop the hunger crisis exacerbated by the pandemic
  3. Resume learning for all children
  4. Increase Climate Ambition and Cool the Planet
  5. Promote Equity and Justice for All

Financing for sustainable development is a cross-cutting theme of this year’s campaign.

Until the end of the year, Global Citizen will organize two more tentpole moments (on top of VaxLive organized in early May) to leverage new commitments:

  • September 25: Global Citizen Live, focused on the 5 pillars with a specific emphasis on climate
  • October 29: G20, mobilizing commitments and celebrating success ahead of the G20 Summit and the COP.

As part of the campaign, Global Citizen aims at mobilizing governments, corporates, and philanthropic foundations to secure new financial and policy commitments, grow the movement and mobilize the public around the priority issues.

Global Citizen Live will be the most important event for Global Citizen’s campaign this year. It will be a 12-hour broadcast, with live events with attendance in New York City and Paris.

In order to achieve our objectives in the run-up and with the event itself, Global Citizen is building a team on the ground in Paris, which will closely work with the global teams, Live Nation as our most important partner and be supervised by the VP for Global Advocacy based out of Paris.
