As we pass 1,000,000 genomic profiles analyzed and look to the future of our platform, we are now searching for a Junior Computer Scientist / Data Scientist to build a community browser application.
Our platform is a one-of-a-kind globally distributed information system that brings together hospitals and labs to provide data processing and analysis based on a multitude of complex sources of structured and unstructured data, including genomics, imaging, and clinical data, delivered as a multi-tenant SaaS platform on the cloud.
As a Junior Computer Scientist / Data Scientist, you will be part of a team of the Bioinformatic services team.
Over the past years, SOPHiA GENETICS has supported customers with the generation of numerous customised NGS tests for a wide range of disease areas. Building the community panel will allow our Sales Department to explore the list of available solutions optimally and match it with their customer needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The intern will have the opportunity to learn how to design and develop applications in collaboration with different teams, from gathering the requirements, designing the tests and implementation of the applications and tests by:
- Collaborating with the Data Engineering team (part of the Bioinformatics Services department), who is in charge of the Data Service Application Platform
- Liaising with different stakeholders (bioinformaticians, Sales and Sales Operations) to clarify the user needs
- Working together with Data Engineering and Tech team to identify the best suitable technology options available for implementation of the user needs,
- Implementing and testing the solution
The internship project will unfold in following stages:
- Migrate the existing tool from databricks to our Data Service Application Platform (implemented in Python + Django) (due to urgency this might already be done at the beginning of the internship depending on starting date)
- Integrate product code and price information from the ERP system
- Explore different options of integrating target region information into the system and their overlap with gene structures (needed to identify genes that are only partially covered) and identify the most suitable solution
- Enable the display of warnings if certain genes are only partially covered
- Enable the user to get detailed information about what is covered (for partial genes)
- Enable more advanced search inputs (list of transcripts with list of exons, bed files)
Requirements
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Bioinformatics (or equivalent)
- Programming experience in Python
- Knowledge of version control using gitlab
- Strong communication skills in English
- Multi-tasking abilities
- Team player, but also able to work autonomously
- Experience with web development using Django would be an advantage
- Experience in NGS data analysis would be an advantage
