About BlaBlaCar DailyWe’re looking for people to join our journey on BlaBlaCar Daily. We are an independent business unit growing fast following the acquisition of Klaxit in March 2023 (link). We are going to be about 100 people together building the best commute carpooling solution. We are actively developing and testing the product in France, Belgium and Switzerland with thousands of daily carpoolers.
You will join a small team of engineers operating independently of other products at BlaBlaCar and contributing actively to the software development of the product. This can include matching of driver and passengers and carpool features, as well as new features to be adapted from Klaxit into Daily following the integration of both products. The current project goal is to iterate quickly and take over the commuting carpooling market by bringing together the best of BlaBlaCar Daily and Klaxit. Our team is composed of experienced people that have worked on successful services before. The role would provide you with a lot of opportunities to learn and grow.
Your MissionWe are looking for a Confirmed Backend Engineer to join us on the development of BlaBlaCar Daily on the Platform amp; User Migration workstream. You will work on technical challenges and product feature developments from the early conception meetings, development and test strategy, to deployment in production, on-call, observability, and support. You will mainly work on backend features with occasional contributions to our frontend projects.
Your responsibilitiesAs a Confirmed Back-end Engineer within BlaBlaCar Daily, you’d join a team of 25 Software Engineers (backend amp; frontend). You'd be part of our Platform amp; User Migration sub-stream, whose goal is to ensure a smooth transition of Klaxit users amp; contracts to Daily.
Your main responsibilities would be to:• Participate in the whole application development lifecycle, including: early-stage product meetings, architecture design, development, tests strategy, deployment to production, monitoring, alerting and support• Support and collaborate with other engineers on the team to develop our backend projects together• Improve our matching algorithms to help drivers and passengers to better carpool together• Adapt existing feature implementations to growing scalability challenges
Your qualifications• Strong experience in back-end development. Our internal stack is Python (Flask). If you have experience on Django or APIrest, it could be a good fit as well!• Familiarity with databases; especially relational ones like PostgreSQL• Computer science background (database design, algorithms and data structures, networking, abstractions, security)• Ability to find the good balance between fast iterations and quality of delivery• Ability to take a research problem from conception to production-ready for our users• Fluency in English.
Although not required, it would be nice if you had:• Experience with OSRM or GraphHopper, and graph optimisation algorithms• Experience with developer tools like Docker, Kubernetes, and monitoring solutions
